The whole of the African continent has been filled with cheers and excitement following Morocco’s historic feat at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Many African football lovers took to the streets and social media to celebrate this important victory and most importantly was the Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, joining the celebration train.
Her Excellency, Imane Quaadil thanked the Ghanaian community and all Africans for their immense support.
“This historic victory is for Morocco, but mostly for Africa. Viva Africa !” -she told sportnewsafrica.com.
“We thank you for your support. In Accra streets we saw our Ghanaian brothers and sisters sharing our joy and cheering for Morocco“, she added.
The Atlas Lions of Morocco inked their name in the history books of the FIFA World Cup as the first African country to make the semi-finals.
This historic feat comes after their slim 1-0 victory over Portugal in the quarter finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The North African side defeated European heavyweights Portugal by a lone goal courtesy Youssif En Nesyri header.
The Sevilla forward rose high to jump in from Yahia Atiyat Allah’s cross from the left wing in the 42nd minute, beating Portugal’s goalkeeper Diego Costa to the ball.
Morocco was drawn in a tough group alongside Canada, Belgium and Croatia.
The Atlas Lions however, qualified for the knockout stage after an unbeaten run, drawing to Croatia and beating both Belgium and Canada to reach the round of 16 for the first time in the tournament since 1996.
Walid Regragui’s side contributed to this year’s upsets as they eliminated another European heavyweights, Spain on penalties after a goalless draw in duration to book a place in the quarter finals.
Morocco joined Ghana, Cameroon and Senegal as the only African sides to attain such feat.
Morocco will be playing the winner of the clash between France and England while Argentina takes on Croatia in the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World
