International friendly: Evelyn Badu strikes late to propel Ghana to victory over Senegal – Football

The Black Queens of Ghana beat the Teranga Lioness of Senegal by a lone goal at the Accra sports stadium on Tuesday afternoon in their second encounter.

A second half strike from Denmark based Evelyn Badu helped the Black Queens to record their second victory over the Senegalese counterparts, having won on last Saturday by 3-0.

Head coach, Nora Häuptle made four changes from the team that played in the first game; Adama Alhassan, Azumah Bugre, two goal hero Gifty Assifuah and Malta-based goalie Cynthia Konlan were all left at the bench.

The Black Queens failed to create much chances in the first half as it ended scoreless, with Senegal being so resolute in defense where.

Back from recess, the Teranga Lioness had some opportunities to get the opener in the first five minutes in the second half but both Mama Diouf and Nguena couldn’t make it count as both efforts were wasted.

Ghana had a perfect opportunity to grab the opener in the 72nd minute Doris Boaduwaa  set up Evelyn Badu who also laid it off to Fidaus Yakubu but saw her efforts go wide.

Both sides failed to find the back of the nets until the 84th minute when former Hasaacas Ladies midfielder, Evelyn Badu hammered in a shot from the box to give her side the lead.

Nora Hauptle’s side held onto the 1-0 lead till the end of the game to record their third consecutive victory under the Swiss trainer.

The two friendly encounter with the Senegalese counterparts forms part of the team’s preparations for the 2023 WAFU B Cup of Nations and qualifiers for the African Women’s Cup of Nations in 2024.
