POLICE in Marondera, Mashonaland East province have launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly raped and murdered a 65-year-old woman in a maize field last Friday.

Maggie Kaomba’s body was discovered in a decomposing state three days after she had gone missing.

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii confirmed the incident.

“We have since launched a manhunt for the suspect.

We are appealing to anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the suspect to inform the police.

Meanwhile, we are urging residents or the public to move in groups or avoid visiting secluded places like bushes and maize fields,” he said.

According to police on March 11, at around 11am, the deceased left her home in Dombotombo suburb saying she was going to her maize field, but never returned.

Her relatives filed a missing person report at Dombotombo Police Station.

On March 14, Kaomba’s son and other relatives went to Hunyani Forest’s maize field looking for her and discovered her decomposing body.

Residents said six women had fallen prey to the suspected rapist, with some of the victims having been killed in the past two months.
